We Asked Miyamoto Which Nintendo Character He’d Like to Drink With

It’s not every day that you have access to a legendary creator like Shigeru Miyamoto, the man who created (and continues to create) so many of the games I’ve loved my whole life—Mario, Zelda, Donkey Kong—games that have entertained and inspired millions of people.

What do you say when you have such a person for a few precious minutes?

If you’re anything like me, you ask him which of the characters he’s created over the years he’d most like to have a beer with.

Once my question was translated, he started laughing. “Actually, I don’t drink beer!” he laughed. Then he started musing. He got serious. “Oh, who would it be,” he wondered aloud. After a moment, he had it. “Fox McCloud,” he said. “Yeah, he would have the best stories.”

I asked Nintendo of America President and COO, Reggie Fils-Aime the same question, although phrased more like who he’d be best bros with, and he immediately replied with “I love the Legend of Zelda series, A Link to the Past was the very first game that I completed, so I’ve got a tremendous affinity to Link.”

“If you have a 3DS here and we happen to streetpass, you’ll see that my character is in Link garb! So, I have a strong passion for that series, and Link would be the character I identify the most with.”

I think this calls for a Golden Goddess.
