‘Deadly Premonition’ Designer's Next Game About a Town Full of Secret Cats

You know what, that's just weird enough to work.

It was recently announced that Deadly Premonition designer Hidetaka "Swery" Suehiro would reveal his next game at PAX this month, but according to a newsletter distributed by the crowdfunding service Fig, we already know what he's planning. The Good Life, set in the quaint rural England town of Rainy Woods, is about a New York photographer who stumbled upon a town with a secret: at night, everyone turns into a cat. The game's motto: "become a cat, enjoy the night." Nice.

"This game will inherit the spirit of Deadly Premonition, my most representative work," said Suehrio in the email, "but it will also feature a brand new style of gameplay. It's a mystery game based on the framework of a 'daily life RPG.' I'm positive that the happiest town in the world and the most bizarre townspeople in the world will capture your heart and pull you deep into their world. "

Sounds good to me. I'm game for whatever, though I'll admit to being disappointed we won't learn anything more about the strange universe depicted in D4: Dark Dreams Don't Die, meant to be an episodic game centered around Kinect.

Only the first episode was released.

You were a very charming game, D4.

The crowdfunding campaign won't launch for another 18 days, which lines up with Suehiro hosting a PAX panel where he'll be talking about his new game. The crowdfunding amount isn't publicly listed, but Fig users with access to the page report it's $1.5 million. The difference with Fig, however, is that it's not only fans funding the game; you're putting in money with outside investors, which means the game may not actually have to "raise" $1.5 million, a la Kickstarter.
