'Rocket League' Pro Proves Why There's a Move Named After Him

David "Deevo" Morrow is one of the world's best Rocket League players—not only a current Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) champion, but also the MVP of June's finals. And he's a consistent source of jaw-dropping shots, as seen in this play from yesterday:

His EnVyUs teammate Marius "gReazymeister" Ranheim makes a fine double-tap shot attempt, but it's deflected by Team Secret's Jack "FlamE" Pearton and lofted to the left of the goal by Stephen "Tylacto" Griffin. That's when Deevo soars in, bounces the ball into the ceiling corner, and then perfectly spins his car in an instant to deliver the soft hood tap into the goal.

This is what Deevo does: he's a mechanical dynamo who frequently notches pinpoint volleys from all sorts of perplexing angles. In fact, this is a next-level version of the shot he has perfected: the double-tap goal against the backboard. Oceania players started calling it the "Deevo" in his honor, and the term has since entered the wider Rocket League esports lexicon.

Deevo's latest showstopper helped cap off EnVy's 3-0 sweep of Team Secret during RLCS League Play, but last season's champions have gotten off to a slow overall start this season: it's their only series win after two weeks, compared to two losses.

Over the summer, we spoke with captain Remco "Remkoe" den Boer about the pressure of being on top of the pro Rocket League scene with a major new organization behind them. They're also coming to grips with last month's surprising addition of free agent gReazymeister, himself a past RLCS champion with FlipSid3 Tactics. Still, it's early in the season, and that 1-2 record is good enough for 4th place in Europe.

There's a larger regional shake-up being led by Method, a team that has started the new season 4-0. Last season, this same roster finished with a rough 2-5 League Play record and then missed out on the finals. Just two weeks in now, they've swept EnVyUs and taken down FlipSid3 Tactics and recent Universal Open 2v2 champs, Gale Force Esports.

Method has the coming weekend off, so we'll see if they can continue that momentum when they return in week four. But before then, we'll find out whether EnVyUs can bounce back to a winning record this weekend against a pair of 0-1 teams, exceL and Mock-It Esports.
