It's hard enough to lose a premier Rocket League tournament in game seven of the grand finals, but even harder when the deciding goal comes off of your bumper—and into your own goal.That's what happened yesterday at DreamHack Atlanta, when an off-the-mark shot from The Muffin Men's Kyle "Torment" Storer bounced off the wall, hit Gale Force Esports' Alexandre "Kaydop" Courant's car, and landed in Gale Force's net. This crushing, go-ahead score came with just 17 seconds left on the clock, and The Muffin Men held onto the lead to secure the championship. Formed in May, the North American squad—which also includes namesake Mariano "SquishyMuffinz" Arruda and Jesus "Gimmick" Parra—just won their very first live event after stringing together smaller online tournament victories.They looked tremendous all weekend, but especially on Sunday, when they took out NA favorites NRG (3-0) and G2 Esports (4-2) before finishing off Gale Force to win it all. Harmonious team play seemed to elevate them against those more experienced squads, and it's hard to believe that they'll still be without an organization by the time the Rocket League Championship Series (RLCS) returns next month.Meanwhile, it was another tough break for Gale Force, as the surging EU team can't seem to win a LAN. They finished second at DreamHack Summer last month, second last weekend at X Games, and now second again in Atlanta. Still, it was a close grand finals that went right up to the final seconds, and at least Gale Force took down current RLCS champs EnVyUs yet again in the semi-finals.
