Is it Me, Or is the Steam Summer Sale Boring This Year?

As Steam begins booting up on my computer, I sit back in my chair, overcome with dread. I really don't want to be doing this, I think to myself.

Though clearly some of us are excited about this year's Summer Sale, I can't seem to manage the same enthusiasm. This reaction is a huge shift from my experience with last year's Summer Sale, where I dropped a lot of that month's paycheck on more games than I could ever attempt to get through—I was absolutely pumped to finally tackle games like the Mass Effect series, Everybody's Gone to the Rapture, and The Stanley Parable, to name a few. Leading up to the sale, I was constantly asking peers for game recommendations, building my Wishlist up to unheard of proportions, determined to get my hands on as much as I could. I just wanted to play everything.

I am very sorry to report that the majority of those games have collected a thick layer of digital dust. I would like to apologize to all of the friends I pestered—I assure you I am more disappointed than you.

Perhaps it is the overwhelming amount of greyed-out titles in my library that has me so disillusioned, but when the Summer Sale came around this year, I didn't even notice. Now, sitting on the Steam Store homepage, I feel no desire to dive in and explore to the depths of what's available to me. I feel apathetic, completely directionless.

Where did the passion I felt putting Firewatch, Stardew Valley, Hyper Light Drifter, and many, many others into my 2016 cart go? I couldn't wait to pick up turtles in national parks, find my forever love in a small town, and drift away into Buried Time. Now, I'm just staring blankly at the page.

I think what I really need is a shepherding light to break up the impenetrable density of the Steam Store. Someone to lead me to games I'll enjoy (and actually get around to playing). If you feel equipped to be my guide, extend a virtual hand via my Twitter.
