Even Frogs From Space Can Adopt Ethically-Conscious Eating Practices

'Vegan Frogs from Outer Space' is the only game brave enough to question millions of years of frog culture.

Ask a vegan why they've chosen their lifestyle, and you'll get a lot of differing answers of equal validity. Some folk are motivated by the (admittedly awful) conditions under which most livestock are forced to propagate. Some choose veganism for health reasons, while others still go vegan after their meal politely asks them to reconsider.

Vegan Frogs from Outer Space is an example of the latter scenario, which many of us have encountered ourselves at one point or another. A small frog, willing to buck millennia of evolution and accepted frog norms, embarks on a brief, yet eye-opening adventure with their meal-turned-friend. The shades of Super Meat Boy are cast a bit heavy at times in this short platformer, but the colorful environments, chirpy chiptunes and charming fauna easily make up for the somewhat overzealous controls.

The game was developed by a three-person team for last month's frog jam, using "raw JS, HTML and a bit of CSS," according to its itch.io page. Joshua Ashton and Stonie Blue, responsible for programming and artwork respectively, are themselves a two-person development team called NONAGON. The team has announced ORDER, a minimalist game for which very few details are available. Vegan Frogs' chiptune sensibilities come courtesy of glitch-hop artist CONUNDRUM, whose verified summer jams can be heard on their Soundcloud profile.

We respect this frog for making a lifestyle change that not only benefits the flies around them, but also encourages other frogs to think freely, and question the norms with which they were raised. It's of massive importance, however, that all frogs make these decisions of their own accord. If you have a frog friend of your own, please allow them to become vegan willingly—forcibly removing a frog's buggy diet is not recommended under any circumstances.
