Tune in to 'Waypoint Presents' Tonight on Disney XD
Waypoint’s is headed to your TV! Our new documentary series begins tonight with an episode on ‘Hyper Light Drifter’ and 'SuperHyperCube.'
We're doing something a little different (and very exciting) tonight: At 10 PM Eastern we're premiering Waypoint Presents on Disney XD, a documentary series covering games, the people that make them, and the communities that play them.
More than that, it's a series about how and why we play games. We show the real stories behind bitter esports rivalries, the secrets of game development, the ways that roleplaying and speedrunning communities have come together to support each other, and the different forms that fandom and devotion can take even within the same community.
In tonight's ep, we're taking you behind the scenes with two games: First, we visit Heart Machine and Alex Preston on the eve of their launch of Hyper Light Drifter, a 2D action RPG that also functions as a metaphor for its creator's own chronic medical condition.
Then, we'll tell you the story of SuperHyperCube, a brilliant virtual reality game whose time did not come until a decade after its conception. You'll hear the team at Kokoromi talk about how they conceived of a VR game in a very different era, before there was even a hint that virtual reality was about to become a major consumer technology, as well as their own reactions and misgivings when it comes to VR as it exists now.
