What Games Are You Trying to Finish Before the Year Is Over?

On Waypoint Radio, we briefly touched on some of the games the Waypoint crew is playing, as we begin to consider our candidates for game of the year. It’s been an unbelievably exhausting year for reasons good and bad—too many great video games, too much awful news to digest. Thankfully, one has helped me cope with the other!
But as I sift through the list of games that game out this year—a list that is hardly exhaustive, as it doesn’t include lots of indie games or the hundreds of titles added to Steam each week—it’s a stark reminder how behind the curve I’m going to be at the end of the near, no matter how many nights I try to stay up with a controller.
Recently, I’ve focused on games I enjoyed for various reasons but never finished. The idea is to make sure I’ve spent more time with games I know l had a genuine passion for, rather than digging through piles of randoms and wondering if one might connect. It’s lead to seeing the credits on Pyre, Observer, Golf Story, and The Evil Within 2. (Pyre is the one that probably won’t end up as a contender for my list; the story and world building were tremendous, but the gameplay did little for me.)
Looking at my list of games, the ones I still need to cross the finish line on include Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle, Doki Doki Literature Club, and Battle Chasers: Night War. (Sorry, Persona 5.) I’ve also started Assassin’s Creed: Origins for some reason?
What games are you trying to hustle through before the year is up, aka you need to beat the games before they're spoiled on Giant Bomb’s game of the year podcasts?
