INTERPOL Issues Wanted Notices for the Arrest of Jack Warner and Others

INTERPOL has issued international "Red Notices" for the arrest of Jack Warner and others wanted for involvement in the ongoing FIFA scandal.

The FIFA scandal continues to deepen. This morning, INTERPOL issued "Red Notices—or international wanted persons alerts" for five soccer-related people wanted by the U.S. Justice Department for charges including racketeering, corruption and conspiracy. Who's on the list? The infamous Jack Warner, for one. Warner is alleged to have received $10 million in bribe money from FIFA. Subsequently, Warner took to the internet to defend himself, citing an Onion article in his defense. FIFA President Sepp Blatter isn't on the list… yet.

Here are the relevant notices, as quoted from the INTERPOL release:

Jack Warner, Trinidad & Tobago national, former FIFA vice president and executive committee member, CONCACAF president, CFU president and Trinidad and Tobago Football Federation (TTFF) special adviser.

Nicolás Leoz, Paraguayan national, former FIFA executive committee member and CONMEBOL president.

Alejandro Burzaco, Argentine national, controlling principal of Torneos y Competencias S.A., a sports marketing business based in Argentina, and its affiliates.

Hugo Jinkis and Mariano Jinkis, Argentine nationals, controlling principals of Full Play Group S.A., a sports marketing business based in Argentina, and its affiliates.

José Margulies (also known as José Lazaro), Brazilian national, controlling principal of Valente Corp. and Somerton Ltd., broadcasting businesses.

A Red Notice isn't a warrant for arrest but an indication that these people are wanted elsewhere (in this case the United States). "INTERPOL's General Secretariat does not send officers to arrest individuals who are the subject of a Red Notice," INTERPOL's notice reads in part. "Only the law enforcement authorities of the INTERPOL member country where the individual is located have the legal authority to make an arrest."

Warner was arrested by police in Trinidad and Tobago and released last week. It's unclear if authorities there will immediately arrest him again.
